Severe monsoon rains caused extensive flooding and soil erosion, leading to:
- Collapse of protective embankments
- Displacement of local communities
- Increased risk of future flooding
The rehabilitation project required:
- Efficient transfer of high-density slurry (60% solids)
- Handling of abrasive materials (sand, gravel, saltwater)
- Fast deployment to meet project timelines
- Safe and flexible pipeline setup in a construction environment
Traditional rigid pipe systems would have been heavier, slower to deploy, and less adaptable to site conditions.
Crusader Hose supplied Flexiline™ layflat hose, specifically suited for abrasive slurry applications.
The system included:
- 4 × 25 m lengths of 6” Flexiline™ hose
- Bauer couplings for secure and efficient connections
- Integration with Atlas Copco WEDA L70 slurry pump
- Connection to Geotube dewatering containers
Key advantages of Flexiline™:
- Abrasion-resistant TPU lining, ideal for sand and slurry
- Flexible and lightweight, enabling easy handling
- Rapid assembly, reducing setup time
- Capability to handle required pressures (35 psi)
- Adaptability to changing site conditions
The pipeline was assembled on-site and connected between the slurry pump and Geotubes for continuous operation.
The Flexiline™ system delivered strong project outcomes:
- Pipeline assembled in ~1 hour
- Each Geotube filled in ~2 hours
- Safer and easier handling compared to rigid pipe systems
- Improved efficiency in slurry transfer operations
- Dyke rehabilitation completed in 6 months
- System reused on additional project sites, proving reliability
Customer feedback:
“We recommended Flexiline because we were confident it could handle high-density abrasive materials… We were happy with the result.”
