Yarra Valley Water manages an ageing water distribution network, with some pipelines over 100 years old requiring regular maintenance and relining.
Key challenges included:
- Maintaining continuous potable water supply to residents
- Supporting maintenance works across up to 2 km of pipeline
- Avoiding disruption to households during extended works
- Providing a safe and compliant potable water solution
- Ensuring rapid deployment in urban environments
Traditional approaches risked service interruptions or required complex temporary infrastructure.
Crusader Hose partnered with Yarra Valley Water to develop the Pureline potable bypass system, using Aqualine™ layflat hose.
The system included:
- Layflat potable water hose deployed along the street
- T-fittings installed at 9 m intervals, enabling connection to individual households
- A continuous bypass line supplying water during maintenance works
Key advantages of the system:
- Uninterrupted potable water supply for residents
- Rapid installation and setup, minimising downtime
- Compact and lightweight design, ideal for urban environments
- Scalable solution, adaptable to different pipeline lengths
- Easy handling, reducing labour requirements
The Pureline system delivered strong operational and customer outcomes:
- Continuous water supply maintained for residents
- Bypass lengths up to 2 km successfully deployed
- Fast setup, enabling immediate commencement of maintenance works
- Reliable performance over extended periods (weeks at a time)
- Minimal disruption to households and local communities
Customer insight:
“This bypass system incorporates T fittings at 9 m intervals so that there is a point from which to feed into each household.”
